Capitol Theatre Refurb for RMIT

Walter Burley Griffin & Marion Mahony Griffin/Six Degrees Architects | Website | 1924/2019 | Visitor Information

113 Swanston Street, Melbourne Victoria 3000, Australia

"

RMIT Capitol Theatre is a rich project which combines heritage restoration of this unique historic cinema with the integration of 21st century seating, lighting and projection and sound equipment.

The geometric plaster ceilings, its key architectural feature, were fully restored and refitted with LED lighting to increase light levels and reduce power consumption. The cinema operates as RMIT’s premier film and media learning and teaching facility, hosting film screenings, lectures and other large format programmes.

The refurbishment project included major upgrade of significant systems including lighting, audiovisual, mechanical, carpeting and full amenities upgrade.
